.I01 file format is used by DVD Shrink software application. It is a freeware application which is DVD transcoder that is based on DVD ripper.

This application is used to back up data on DVD. The application stores data in number of files which have extension name given to define their sequence. The whole data is divided into several parts depending on the size of the data. The second file in this series of backup files is given extension of I01. These files are created to reduce the size of the data on DVD with minimum possible loss in quality. The software uses VBR encoder and DeCSS decryption algorithm.
